January is a weird month. The holidays are over, your inbox is back in full force, you’re trying to rebalance your life and find resolutions that work - and suddenly everyone has opinions about what you should be doing with your body. Dry January. Damp January. “Just one glass, it was a long day” January. We’re not here to judge your glass - we just want to talk about something that might help you reset after the holiday chaos: Regular January. As in… regular bowel movements. No matter what you do to reset after the holidays, gut health should be part of your focus because of how much it impacts your overall wellness. ✨🚽✨ The Gut Health-Overall Health Connection After weeks of rich foods, late nights, travel, and yes festive beverages, your digestive system might be feeling the impact of those choices. It’s possible that you’re not as regular, maybe experience irritable bowels or diarrhea, which can potentially lead to ineffective nutrient absorption. Overtime, this can contribute to fatigue and deficiencies even if you are focusing on a healthier diet. Or maybe your feeling a little “clogged” and things aren’t moving like they should. In cases of prolonged constipation, you’re body isn’t able to get rid of waste and toxins the way it needs to, which can make you feel sluggish, heavy, or foggy. About 70% of the immune system lives in the gut, so poor bowel health can impact the body’s ability to fight off infections or illness. The gut-brain connection is real - so on top of everything else, continued irregularity or gastrointestinal distress can impact mood regulation, stress and anxiety levels, and can even affect neurotransmitters like serotonin. You can literally be sad from constipation! How Alcohol Can Impact Your Gut (Just a Little Honesty) We’re not anti-fun, but we are pro-facts. Alcohol can impact bowel health in a few ways: Dehydration: Alcohol pulls water from your body, which can lead to harder, more difficult-to-pass stools. Gut irritation: It can irritate your digestive tract, sometimes leading to urgency… or the opposite problem entirely. Motility changes: Alcohol can speed things up or slow them down, making bowel habits unpredictable. That doesn’t mean you need to swear off happy hour forever. It just means a little awareness (and hydration) goes a long way. Tips for Staying Regular This January (No Matter What’s in Your Glass) Whether you’re going dry, damp, or delightfully unchanged, shift your focus to helping your bowel regain a harmonious, healthy routine! Here’s how to support your gut and keep things moving: 💧 Hydrate like it’s your job - Water helps soften stool and supports digestion — especially important if alcohol is in the mix. 🥦 Prioritize fiber (but don’t overdo it) - Fruits, veggies, whole grains, and legumes help keep things moving. Increase gradually to avoid bloating. 🕒 Get on a schedule - Try to use the bathroom at the same time each day (hello, post-coffee routine). Your gut loves consistency. 🚶 Move your body - Gentle movement like walking can stimulate digestion and help encourage regularity. 🚽 Use better posture - Sitting with your feet elevated (👋 Squatty Potty) puts your body in a more natural position to poop, reducing strain and helping you fully empty - basically the ultimate January reset tool. “Regular” Is the Real Reset January doesn’t have to be about extremes. You don’t need to punish your body for December or follow someone else’s rules for what “healthy” looks like. Dry January? Great. Damp January? You do you. Regular January? That’s something we can all get behind. When your gut feels good, everything else just… flows better. So here’s to a January that’s balanced, realistic, and - most importantly - regular. 💩💙
Learn moreThey say it takes 21 days to form a new habit. Whether it’s drinking more water, stretching in the morning, or finally remembering to floss, change doesn’t happen overnight. Your body needs time and your brain needs repetition. The same goes for changing and benefiting from new bathroom habits. There’s probably a bunch of you out there that got gifted a Squatty Potty over the holidays and might be wondering “isn’t this thing supposed to give me magical poops or something?”. The answer is ✨yes✨ but like all adjustments getting the full benefits might take a little time. Change Is Awkward at First (Even in the Bathroom) Let’s be honest, using a Squatty Potty for the first time can feel a little strange. You sit. You lift your feet. You wonder, “Am I doing this right?”, "What is this supposed to feel like?", "I don't feel magically different - is it not working?" Totally normal. Just like any new habit, your body has spent years doing things one way. Switching to a more natural squat position isn’t something your muscles, posture, or digestive system instantly recognize. But here’s the good news: that adjustment period is exactly how habits are formed. Your Body Loves Consistency (Especially Your Colon) When you consistently use a Squatty Potty, you’re training your body to relax the puborectalis muscle—the muscle that normally kinks the colon when you sit upright. In a squat position, that kink straightens out, allowing things to flow the way nature intended. At first, you might only notice small, subtle changes: A little less straining Shorter bathroom visits A feeling that things are… moving in a different way Over time (hello, 21 days 👋), those small wins add up to: More complete elimination Less pressure Better overall gut health Habits Build Health, One Bathroom Trip at a Time Think of Squatty Potty as less of a “bathroom accessory” and more of a daily wellness habit. You wouldn’t expect to feel stronger after one workout or calmer after one deep breath. In the same way, your digestive system needs repetition to fully reap the benefits. Stick with it. Use it every time. Let your body learn what “easy” is supposed to feel like. The Bottom Line (Pun Fully Intended) New habits take time. Bodies take time. And the path to better poops is no different. Give it a few weeks. Stay consistent. Trust the process. If you’re starting out your Squatty Potty journey stick with it, and by February your bathroom experience will feel much different. Your future self will thank you, because sometimes, the smallest habit changes can make the biggest difference. 🚽✨
Learn moreLast time we caught up with Dookie, he was relishing the transition from summer to fall - but now, we find that he’s fully embraced the holiday season! Our beloved Squatty Potty mascot, horn gleaming, mane dusted with snow, and heart absolutely bursting with cheer, is having a full-on, Hallmark-movie-worthy holiday - and loving every magical minute of it. ✨Hooves at the Holiday Market✨ Dookie’s favorite place to start the season was the holiday market, where the air smelled like cinnamon, pine, and warm sugar. He wandered from stall to stall, marveling at hand-knit scarves, glittering ornaments, and delectable treats. Everywhere Dookie went, hooves crunched softly in the snow, bells chimed, and strangers smiled - because it’s hard not to smile when a unicorn wishes you happy holidays. He sipped hot cider and sampled cookies shaped like stars, trees, and the occasional unicorn, which felt both flattering and mildly awkward. Still, Dookie felt at home. There’s something about a holiday market that reminds you life is sweeter when you slow down, savor the moment, and maybe buy one unnecessary but deeply charming ornament. ✨Cookies, Lights, and Holiday Delights✨ Back at his cozy little cottage, his Christmas preparations were in full swing. The kitchen was warm, the counters dusted in flour, and the oven working overtime. Dookie had promised himself he’d bake just one batch of cookies, but somehow that turned into five. He made gingerbread unicorns, decorated sugar cookies, peanut butter blossoms, peppermint chocolate chip - the list went on and on! Not all of them turned out perfect, but the imperfect ones were his favorite, and in his opinion the most delicious. Tree trimming came next. Dookie hung ornaments collected over the years: a tiny Squatty Potty shaped one from his early mascot days, a festive sparkly poop shape ornament , and a homemade one that simply read “Be Kind to Your Heart (and Your Gut).” When the lights finally flickered on, the room glowed softly. Dookie stepped back, took it all in, and felt that familiar holiday flutter of warmth and joy. He then got to wrapping - his favorite gift for all his favorite people. Everyone was getting a festive Santa Red Squatty Potty with a bundle of Grab n Go Flushable Wipes. He, of all people (and unicorns), knows how important digestive health is, and he knew everyone would chuckle at first but ultimately deeply appreciate how thoughtful (and functional!) this gift really is. ✨Fireside Feelings and Cocoa Conversations✨ As night fell, snow tapped gently against the windows. Dookie curled up by the fire with a mug of hot chocolate so rich it practically required a spoon. The flames danced, the room hummed with warmth, and for a moment, everything felt perfectly still. That’s when there was a knock at the door. Standing outside was a familiar face - sparkling eyes and perfect hair, it was the Prince of Poop dropping by to check on his long time friend, and exchange baked treats. They talked about favorite traditions, childhood memories, and why the holidays always seems to bring out the best in people. They laughed. They shared cookies. They added extra logs to the fire. They shared so many magical moments -the kind that make you believe the holidays really do make the ordinary extraordinary. ✨A Little Magic Goes a Long Way✨ As the season continued, Dookie felt full in every sense of the word. Full of cookies. Full of cocoa. Full of warmth, laughter, and love. As snow sparkled outside and the tree lights twinkled softly, Dookie reflected on what made this season so special. It wasn’t the decorations or the treats—though those certainly helped. It was the connection. The comfort. The joy of slowing down and sharing simple moments with others. Because at the end of the day, holiday magic isn’t about perfection. It’s about warmth, kindness, and making room - whether in your schedule, your home, or your heart - for a little extra love. And if a unicorn named Dookie can find that magic by the fire, cookie in hoof and hope in his heart, maybe we all can too. Happy Holidays from Dookie—and may your season be cozy, joyful, and just a little bit magical.🎄🦄
